Tragedy in Boston


Yesterday, April 15th, was the 117th annual Boston Marathon that is held annually on Patriot’s Day and a day of tragedy. At this point, we have all heard about the bombing incident that took place at the marathon. Lives were lost, many were injured and fear, shock and other emotions have overcome our country.

While I have not been directly affected by the tragedy, my hurt is heavy for those who have lost loved ones, for those who have been injured and for the changes in the lives of those present as a result of this incident.

As I sat in bed last night reading more about the updates from the bombing and going through the video clips and photos posted on CNN’s US News page, I asked myself, “what can I do?”

  1. Pray: Pray for the families affected, pray for the leaders of our country, pray for safety and security of our country. Just pray.
  2. Donate: The Red Cross and Salvation Army are accepting donations as well as Boston’s Children’s Hospital for those who have been injured.

While these are only two ways to help, as time goes on, more opportunities will be available as more news is available about the bombing.

Wanted: Internship


With the semester coming to an end and summer quickly approaching, I am hustling to secure an internship for this summer, not because I am required to but because I would like to gain as much experience as possible before I graduate next May. 

In my field of study, Communications/Public Relations, it is crucial to have experience in the field if I would like to find a secure, well-paying job in my future. This is where internships come to play. 

Internships allow interns to gain experience by being a part of the team for a short period of time, generally 3-6 months. This gives the intern experience and insight into that field or division of communications.

In the past I have interned at BMHCC in Memphis as their PR Intern in Corporate Communications and while that was a wonderful experience, I am looking to branch out more for this summer and hopefully in a different city as well.

With spring break now over, only a month and a half remains for this semester, meaning that summertime is quickly approaching. With that being said, motivation is at an all time low for me. I have spent the last week being lazy with my toes in the sand and soaking up the Florida sun, and now that I am back to school with a month and a half to get through, my motivation is slacking. So, what can I do to stay motivated and to finish out this semester strong?

  1. Remember why you are in school: All the hard work you put in now will help you in the future.
  2. Create new challenges: New challenges can help you stay interested in what you’re doing.
  3. Set attainable goals: Set small goals that will get you to the final product. This can lessen the stress and allow you to accomplish what you need to do, slowly but surely!
  4. Acknowledge your accomplishments: Give yourself a quick reward when you complete an assignment or task. Take a walk, send an email, get a snack — whatever works for you. Then move on to the next project.

One’s motivation varies from day-to-day, so find out what works for you to keep you motivated!

Time, it’s not really on my side..


With spring break approaching and in the midst of midterms, we can all agree that we are all experiencing some stress. I know that personally, I am a planner and a list-maker, so one can only imagine what my daily planner looks like and how many different sticky notes are in there with various to-do lists.

With so much going on, time is an important element of our day. Without managing it well, we are not able to do as much as we can and some of our day ends up being wasted by doing nothing or something that isn’t of high priority. This is why time management is key during stressful, busy times like now.

Here are a few tips for time management:

  1. Know your priorities: When you know what’s most important to you, you’ll become more deliberate about how you spend your time.
  2. Write out your to-dos, appointments and etc. : Keeping to-dos and appointments in your head only adds to your stress. And it makes it much harder to prioritize your activities. Use a calendar, to-do list, planner, smart phone or tablet to track these obligations, and then, use your brain power for getting them done.
  3. Choose what you say “yes” to and know how to say “no”: When you say “yes” to one activity or task, you’re ultimately saying “no” to something else. Use your priorities as a filter to decide which tasks and activities to say yes to and which ones to say no to.
